Autism Homeschooling in Damansara, Petaling Jaya: BrainWorks Homeschool Campus

Autism changes how a child takes in the world, not how deeply they can think. Our calm, predictable small groups lower the load first, teach the skills explicitly and keep the strengths.

What it can look like

Autism is a lifelong difference in social communication, sensory experience and change. Asperger and “high-functioning” are older or informal terms for learners now described as autistic. It is not a disease and not caused by parenting.

Younger children

  • Little shared play
  • Upset by change
  • Unusual reactions to sound or touch

Primary age

  • Talks at length on favourite topics
  • Takes words literally
  • Finds friendships and playground rules hard

Secondary age

  • Social misunderstandings
  • Anxiety, tired after masking
  • Open-ended tasks feel hard

Many learners have excellent memory for facts, close attention to detail, pattern spotting, honesty, loyalty and deep focus on what they love. We build on these strengths.

The learning route

Primary years

Early years · Stages 1–2

Daily routines with a picture schedule, naming feelings and asking for a break, play with one peer with an adult guiding.

Middle years · Stages 3–4

Social stories and role-play, turn-taking and group games, handling mistakes, practice with small announced changes.

Upper years · Stages 5–6

Conversation and friendship skills, projects built from a special interest, flexible thinking games, preparing for Lower Secondary.

Secondary years

Lower Secondary · 11–14

Cambridge content at age level with extension in strong subjects, planners for open-ended work, teenage social skills and anxiety tools.

IGCSE · 14–16

A subject plan matched to strengths, command-word routines, exam-room rehearsal and a written plan for exam access arrangements through a Cambridge exam centre.

Dignity

Age-appropriate materials only, no forced eye contact and no pressure to act typical. Social skills are taught as options.

A day in the programme

8:30 to 3:00 with movement first: sports and movement, breakfast, four learning blocks, lunch, then revision and assessment. Groups of one to four learners.

  • English: clear steps, visual frames and explicit teaching of tone and meaning.
  • Mathematics: visual, step-by-step, with extension where strong.
  • Science or other subject: investigations and projects linked to interests.
  • Cognitive and skill set: flexible thinking, social skills in a small group, plus character reflection.

The Cambridge pathway

Cambridge Primary (ages 5 to 11), Cambridge Lower Secondary (11 to 14) and Cambridge IGCSE (14 to 16), taught at the right pace for your child.

How we track progress

  • Baseline screen: flexible thinking, attention, working memory, regulation, social skills and key academic skills.
  • Weekly checklist of goals.
  • Re-check every 10–12 weeks.
  • Termly parent report with simple graphs and next goals.

A sensory-friendly learning space: quiet, uncluttered, soft light, headphones allowed, a calm corner and a visual schedule.

Autism Support Sessions (Level 3)

Our full programme is for Level 1 and Level 2 learners. For Level 3 we offer separate two-hour sessions, one-to-one or in a very small group by assessment, with a written risk plan. This is not a full-day programme.

Frequently asked questions

Who is the full programme for?

Autistic learners at Level 1 and Level 2 who communicate in words, or with a communication aid used reliably, can stay safe in a small group with support, toilet and eat independently or nearly so, and need an adult close by for only part of the day. Your child's level is as stated in their assessment report.

What about Level 3?

Level 3 learners are welcome in separate Autism Support Sessions of two hours, one-to-one or in a very small group by assessment. This is not a full-day programme, and each child has a written risk plan.

Do you provide therapy?

No. We support learning and do not diagnose or provide therapy such as ABA, speech or occupational therapy. We work alongside your child's clinicians, and refer you to a specialist centre if your child needs more support than we can safely give.

Will my child follow the Cambridge pathway?

Yes. Content follows Cambridge Primary, Lower Secondary and IGCSE, often at or above age level in strong subjects, with visual structure and explicit steps.

What does it cost?

Fees depend on your child's needs and programme. Please contact us for details.
